Our Talented Guides

Wednesday Kirwin

What are your passions outside of work?

  • Art and illustration.  I’m a children’s book illustrator and I show fine art in galleries. I have a few pieces in Gallery 1988 in May and I’ve recently shown in LA and Seattle galleries.  I also have my first children’s book coming out September 1, called Nobody Loves Minerva, from Sterling Books.

Do you have a family?

  • I live with my boyfriend and small dog Nemo in Mill Valley (Nemo is a main character in Nobody Loves Minerva).  I’m originally from Minnesota, and I miss the snow, but I love California.

What are your inspirations?

  • The kids I work with – they’re the inspiration for my illustrations.

What is your favorite thing about the Museum?

  • Once again, it’s the kids – am I getting repetitive? How they see the world is so exciting. I’m always surprised by what they come up with.

What is your life dream?

  • I’d like to continue to write and illustrate children’s books.

What are your favorite films?

  • Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Tim Burton’s films, and Sin City.

And your favorite music?

  • Django Reinhardt, Johnny Cash and Paul Simon.

Is there something you look forward to learning?

  • French

Where would you like to travel?

  • Japan and Australia, because they’re practically different planets from California.

What are your hobbies or quirks?

  • I like bugs, I bicycle to work, and I like to walk my dog.

What would you be in another life?

  • I’d live in the South of France with a lot of dogs.

Besides running into Wednesday in our Art Studios, look for her at the San Rafael Italian Street Painting Festival June 9 & 10, where she'll be painting a mural.  She'll also be signing her own book at a Reading at the Museum in the fall!
