Weekly Themes

December 2-11: Science of Snow
Snowflakes are unique, just like you! Collaborate with the rest of our Museum community to create a flurry of frozen fractals.

December 12-14: Snow Days
We’re all white this weekend as we think about all things snow - snow angels, snow plows, snow balls, snow men and more snow!

December 16-23: Life in the Snow
Imagine living in the snowy peaks of Lake Tahoe. What would it be like? Check out how people and animals embrace the winter weather.

December 26-30: Winter Traditions
Ski, sled and skate across our programs this week! We will explore the different ways that people celebrate the winter through sport and other snowy activities.

Creative Labs

Science Lab: Ice Investigators, Outdoor Learning Lab
Thursdays, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Investigate the properties of ice using magnifying glasses, droppers, tongs and other science tools. Experiment to see how salt, paint and other materials interact with ice.

Nature Lab: Frozen, Outdoor Learning Lab
Fridays, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Discover what happens when water freezes around natural materials. Work collaboratively to release them from their icy orbs and draw your observations.

Art Lab: Ice Architects, Idea Spot
Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Inspired by the Ice Hotel in Sweden, our visitors are encouraged to build using colored ice cubes. They will think about architecture and geometry as they try to race the clock against melting ice.
