You’re the kind of parent who is interested in the latest childhood development research and how it can help you set your child up to become a more creative thinker. The Museum’s research division, The Center for Childhood Creativity, works with academic leaders at Berkeley, Stanford and other top institutions - sharing their insights in ways that are easy to understand and incorporate into your life. It’s time to get your advanced degree in parenting. Learning has never been this fun or useful!

There are two paths available. Parent Education Playgroups are for children with their parent (or caregivers). Parent Workshops are for grown-ups only. Invite a friend so you can enjoy learning together.

Parent Education Playgroups

Building Creative Thinking in Your Toddler

Wednesdays, 9:30 - 11 a.m.
Ages 18 - 36 months with parent or caregiver
Members $125 per adult/child pair; General $150 per adult/child pair

In these parent participation classes, parent learn strategies and activities to make the most of their toddler’s creative potential and lay the foundation for a life of learning, creation and innovation. Specifically, participants will learn how to:

  • support your child to encounter uncertainty and new experiences with openness and enthusiasm, rather than anxiety.
  • build cognitive flexibility and celebrate divergent thinking
  • develop the all–important skills of communication and collaboration with others
  • build a strong social emotional foundation for all later learning

Each series will dive deeper into one creative learning concept and children will be introduced to materials and projects designed to ignite their creative thinking skills while parents learn about cutting edge research and proven parenting strategies that supports this process.

Stop Disciplining and Start Connecting: Stop Challenging Behaviors Before They Begin

January 22, 6 - 7:30 p.m.

In this interactive and informative workshop, parents of preschoolers ages 18 months – 4 years learned essential parenting strategies for promoting emotional regulation, positive and helpful behaviors, and a healthy parent-child bond. Research drawn from the Center’s academic partners was presented in an easily-accessible way to provide parents with the latest research from neuroscience and psychology on social-emotional development.
