Discovery Theatre

Please obtain your free ticket for The African Roots of Jazz from the Front Desk upon your arrival. There are a limited number for each show and only ticket holders can be allowed into the theater.

“Habari Gani,” Join us for this joyous African-American celebration of family and community. Experience the rich traditions of Kwanzaa, featuring a celebration of African-American culture through hands-on art activities, and performances. There will be a traditional Kwanzaa altar on display in the Museum’s Entry Pavilion

Two free performances by the African Roots of Jazz will be presented in the Discovery Theater at 11 am and 1 pm. Renowned jazz drummer E. W. Wainwright and his ensemble take us on a musical journey that traces African-American musical forms, such as jazz, gospel, and spirituals, from their earliest beginnings in African cultures to today. The program features instrumental music, songs, theater, and audience participation.

Noon Year's Eve

Monday, December 31
9 a.m. - noon

Join us for our annual Noon Year’s Eve Party. Count down to noon with us as we watch the ball drop in Festival Plaza. Dance along to our DJ and create your own party hat to celebrate the Noon Year. Please note that the Museum is open from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

How a Gift Membership Works

We will mail a gift certificate good for your specified level of membership either to you or directly to your recipient, depending on your preference. Your lucky family will then redeem the gift certificate on their next visit to the Museum. The membership will be valid for one year from date of redemption.
