Playdate 2012

Saturday, May 12
6 p.m.
The Palace Hotel
2 New Montgomery Street, San Francisco

Flights of Fancy was a smashing success, raising over $333,000 to benefit educational programming, exhibitions and outreach programs. On the eve of Mother’s Day, guests sipped cocktails, including our signature, Razzmatazz Lemonade and nibbled on hors d’oeuvres while they browsed and bid on our silent auction packages surrounded by the beauty of the Palace Hotel’s historic Garden Court. The evening continued in the grand ballroom where guests dined on a scrumptious dinner prepared by the award-winning Palace Hotel chefs. Then, guests bid on items in the thrilling live auction, and finally, danced the night away to the tunes of Double Funk Crunch. Treat the special mothers in your life to this exciting and glamorous evening.

Building on the success of our 2011 Gala, the Museum’s Board of Trustees and the all-volunteer Discovery Council once again join forces to present our 2012 fundraising extravaganza. The event celebrates the delight, imagination and wonder at the heart of the Museum’s mission of nurturing childhood creativity. Proceeds from Playdate 2012 support the Museum’s systematic program of best-practices and unrivaled resources, including hands-on exhibits and expert-guided workshops in the arts and sciences, and groundbreaking outreach programs for children and families in under-served communities, where the need for creative development is most acute.

Double Funk Crunch

“Double Funk Crunch” (DFC) is a nine piece party band formed in 1997 to serve corporate, private and public clients who desire fun and entertaining dance music for their events. Originally established as a 70’s costumed disco band, years ago DFC turned in their afros and bell-bottoms to become a high energy, fun, party band that has expanded their repertoire to encompass the mega-hits from the Hip- Hop, R&B, Funk, Classic Rock, Big Band, and Country genres. Their high-energy show has the power of a rock concert but still maintains the grooves that pack the dance floor. And yes, they still play some of those disco hits from the 70s.
