Join us for an interactive lecture with Susan Sachs Lipman (Suz). Suz will address how today’s children are increasingly disconnected from nature, even as a growing body of evidence shows that time in nature positively impacts every area of child development -- physical, psychological, intellectual, social and emotional. Nature helps offset stress, obesity and ADHD, and helps children cooperate, self-regulate, and learn through creativity, wonder and play. In her talk, parents will learn about the latest research on children and nature, the worldwide movement to reconnect children with nature, and easy-to-implement and creative ways to experience nature in your own local nature, backyard and right here at the Museum.
This event is brought to you as part of a partnership between the Bay Area Discovery Museum and ScholarShare Speaks, which will include another event in the fall.
About Suz Lipman
Suz is a parenting and family expert who serves as the Social Media Director for the Children & Nature Network, an organization which encourages and supports people and organizations working around the world to reconnect children with nature. Suz will discuss the importance of nature in children’s development, as well as specific suggestions for engaging with nature this summer.
Suz’s book Fed Up with Frenzy: Slow Parenting in a Fast-Moving World was named a 2012 Top 10 Parenting Trend by TIME magazine. In Fed Up with Frenzy, she showed the enormous benefits of having a slower paced, more connected family. The hectic pace of everyday life can keep families constantly on the go, but removing some of the frenzy is easy—if families just take a moment to slow down.
