Group Visit Policy


Group visits are two and a half hours in length and run rain or shine. 

Qualifying for Group Admission

You must have a minimum group of 10 students. The maximum group size is 60 students plus chaperones. Group visits are available for preschool and kindergarten through second grade children only.


Membership cards, discounts, and admit passes cannot be applied towards group visit payment. 

Registration Deposit

A non-refundable deposit of $50 is required at the time of reservation.  


Your group’s remaining balance must be paid on or before the day of your visit or the credit card used to pay your deposit will be charged for this amount. The deposit must be paid by credit card. Final payment may be paid by credit card, mail-in check (personal or business) or cash. We regret that we cannot accept purchase orders at this time.


Refund will be given, minus the $50 non-refundable deposit, if cancellation is received 30 days prior to scheduled visit date. Refunds will not be issued due to inclement weather or day-of circumstances; however, rescheduling your visit within the same school year can be an option pending availability.

In addition, refunds for a headcount change will only be issued up until 1 week prior to your visit. Please call us at (415) 339-3963 to make any changes to your head count.

Additional Students/Adults Day of Visit

Additional tickets may be purchased at the Front Desk for extra students or adults joining the group the day of your visit. They must specify to the Front Desk associates that they are accompanying a group to receive the group admission rate.


Chaperones must be 18 years of age or older and are required to stay with students at all time. Groups must maintain the ratio of 1 adult chaperone for every 5 Students.

Please note: Adults required to assist students with special needs are always admitted free. 


Groups may enjoy lunch on-site at our first-come-first-serve picnic tables and are welcome to bring snacks they are able to carry with them and eat in designated areas. We also encourage groups to have lunch off-site on the field across from the Museum weather permitting.  

Lunch Storage

The Museum will provide rolling carts for groups to store lunches on pending availability. Lunches will be stored in the Entry Pavilion where groups can freely access them at point during their visit.

Photography Waiver

From time to time, the Bay Area Discovery Museum takes photographs and video of Museum activities and visitors for use in editorial and/or promotional material. By entering the Museum, You grant the Museum all rights to use these sound, still or moving images in any medium for educational, promotional, advertising or other purposes that support the mission of the Museum. All rights to the photographs or video belong to the Museum

Unregistered Group Visit Policy

If you arrive at the Museum with a group of ten or more children without a reservation, you will be considered an unregistered group and must meet the following criteria to be admitted.

  1. Be a group of 60 or less children (does not include adults)
  2. Must maintain a ratio of 1 adult to 5 children
  3. Agree to leave before or after 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
  4. Sign and agree to all rules outlined in our Unregistered Group Agreement which prior to entering the Museum

Note: Failure to abide by any on-site rules may result in the group having to leave the premise.


Unregistered groups pay general admission for every person in their group, including chaperones and teachers.

The Group Leader may pay for everyone in the party that is PRESENT at the time of entry. Members of the group who arrive late are responsible for paying their own way into the Museum upon arrive.

If the Group Leader would like to pay the entire group – the ENTIRE group must be present. While waiting for the complete party to arrive, groups may wait outside on the white fish when available.
