The Bay Area Discovery Museum is located at Fort Baker, within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, a unit of the National Park Service.

Directions

From San Francisco and the South Bay: Take 101 across the Golden Gate Bridge and take the Alexander Avenue exit just after the Vista Point. Follow signs to Fort Baker and the Bay Area Discovery Museum.

From the East Bay: Take 580 west across the Richmond/San Rafael bridge. Follow the signs to 101 south, then follow the directions from the North Bay.

From the North Bay: Take 101 South. After the Waldo Tunnel and just before the Golden Gate Bridge, take the Alexander Avenue exit and follow signs to Fort Baker and the Bay Area Discovery Museum.

Parking

Free parking is available in lots next to the Museum. Additional parking is available at the waterfront, by following the road through our main parking lot.

Additional parking can also be found by turning right when exiting the parking lot, and driving up East Road to a dirt lot on the left, or the Bay Trail parking further up the road to the right. Please be advised that there is no sidewalk along East Road.

Public Transportation

The National Park Service has partnered with Marin Transit to provide public bus service to Fort Baker, every weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day (including holidays) through an extension of Marin Transit's Route 61--The West Marin Stagecoach.  The weekend Stagecoach service to Fort Baker runs every 1-1.5 hours between 10 am and 9:30 pm and travels to Sausalito, Marin City, Mill Valley, Stinson Beach and Bolinas.  You can find schedule details on the Marin Transit website.
