The Bay Area Discovery Museum invites families of all compositions to walk with us in the San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade, Sunday, June 28. Our "Tykes on Bikes" contingent marches in the family-friendly beginning of the parade. Bring your wagons, bikes, trikes and strollers - we'll provide the decorations. The parade begins at 10 a.m. - our contingent usually finishes by noon. Families coming from Marin are invited to meet Jennifer and her family on the special Pride Ferry in Larkspur for a fun-filled ride across the Bay.
And this year, we’ll be bringing t-shirts for everyone! Please let us know the size(s) you want: Youth X-Small and Small, Ladies Medium & Large, Men's Medium, Large and XL.
To join the contingent or for more information, email Jennifer at jcaleshu@badm.org. continue reading

At the Museum we've been thinking hard about the creative process - and how we can nurture creativity here at the Museum. Turns out, maybe we should spend more time daydreaming about it!
A new study reports:
"According to Christoff, there are two major networks in the brain: the executive network, involved in problem-solving, reasoning, and “goal-directed deliberate thinking” and the default network, which becomes activated when you’re not doing anything in particular. While only one of the two networks is generally activated at any given time, the study found that when subjects daydreamed or mind-wandered, both networks were activated at the same time ... That may be why it seems as if many people’s best ideas come from inadvertent straying of the mind."Here at the Museum, this makes great sense to us - when you let your children become immersed in their play, it nurtures their innate creativity by helping them make connections that they wouldn't otherwise. continue reading
Our free Asian Pacific Heritage Festival is this Saturday, and we're thrilled to announce classical practitioner, Charya Burt, with dancers Vishnu Tattva Das and Melody Takata present their cross cultural World premiere: “of Spirits Intertwined” dynamically exploring the rituals that underlie each unique ancestral offering at play. Bridging the exclusive experience between the cambodian, indian and Japanese traditions, “of Spirits intertwined” opens a discourse examining the depths of living heritages redefining the context of contemporary dance.
Enjoy this free performance at 2 p.m. in our Festival Plaza between the Art Studios and Discovery Hall.

Limited spaces are available due to theater capacity; please pick up your free ticket at the front desk when entering the Museum. Jeremy Cohen will join him on stage on electric bass along with guest vocalist Kate Davis. Volunteers will be asked to come up on stage and be part of the band, singing and dancing on some songs, and playing the Dr. Seuss-like handmade instruments on others. http://home.earthlink.net/~threehandstephen continue reading
