We're redesigning our Web site and are looking for some adorable kids (yours!) to feature on the homepage. To be considered, the photo needs to be a full-body shot of your child, head to feet, facing straight on to the camera, with the photographer taking the photo at the same height as the child (not looking down at the child). We'll cut the child out of the background, just like the sample photo in this post.
If you'd like your kids to be considered, please send me your pictures at jcaleshu@badm.org. Please, send only 1 photo per child per family. By sending your photo, you agree that we may use your photo in any context at any time, without credit (we won't have room for a photo credit on the homepage...). Thanks! continue reading

It's that time again - we close for annual maintenance for two weeks every September. We're usually open six days a week, so every year we need a more extended period of time to do some of the maintenance we can't accomplish on just one day, like painting, roofing, and a really really deep cleaning!
Stay tuned for news on what we're up to, including membership and entry improvements and new exhibition elements! continue reading

Woo hoo! The San Francisco Bay Guardian picked us for the Best of the Bay 2009! Their editors think we're the Best Nearby Discovery:
While San Francisco is home to a great mix of parks and playgrounds for the little ones, a change of scenery never hurt a fledgling hyperactive mind. Located in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge at Sausalito's Fort Baker, the Bay Area Discovery Museum packs all the fun of a theme park without the misery of a long, scream-filled, "I want to get there now!" car ride. Boasting a seven-acre campus possessing numerous facilities, the Discovery Museum is an absolute treasure trove of indoor and outdoor fun and creativity for the tykes. Science workshops, nature visits, and art classes are regularly available for more focused instruction, while special events, performances and festivals take place throughout the year. Summer camp and school outings are also offered. Bonus: just let the kids run wild among the dizzying array of unique play structures and outside activities in order to fast-track early bedtimes. It's win-win for both parents and kids.continue reading

If you've been to the Museum recently, you may have noticed we have some new tasty treats for sale right by the picnic tables! Museum Cafe manager Remi Hayashi-Girouard has launched a new pastry business called Goody Goodie Cream & Sugar - available exclusively (for now!) at the Musuem.
Open Tuesday - Friday only during lunch time, Goody Goodie serves the most decadent cookies, plus a special grab-'n-go sandwich, in an almost-too-convenient location right at the picnic tables.
All cookies are nut-free, rich and decadent. So far, I can personally attest to the utter deliciousness of the "Goody Goodie" - their signature cookie with a 4:1 chocolate to cookie ratio plus cocoa nibs, and the "Coconut Five-O, a rich blend of chocolate and coconut. I've also heard raves about their "Royal Macaroon", and I can't wait to try the unusual-but-tasty-sounding “The Circus”, with candy popcorn & semi sweet chocolates. continue reading
