Donor Circle Events

Donor Circle Speaker Series

Museum Trustees and volunteers host exclusive, complimentary events for Discovery Circle and Innovator’s Circle donors at least twice per year. They feature distinguished guest speakers who provide valuable parenting tips and insight on current educational topics.

Recent Speaker Series events have featured:

  • JoAnn Deak, author, educator and psychologist. Dr. Deak is the author of three books, including How Girls Thrive; Girls Will Be Girls: Raising Confident and Courageous Daughters; and her recent children’s book, Your Fantastic Elastic Brain, Stretch It, Shape It. She is currently working on a trilogy of books: Brainology 101 for Students, Brainology 101 for Teachers, and Brainology 101 for Parents. Additionally, Dr. Deak has focused on working with adults, parents and teachers in their roles as guides or “neurosculptors”of children. Her perspective on her work is best described as, "every interaction a child has during the course of a day influences the adult that child will become."
  • John Medina, a developmental molecular biologist, founding director of the Seattle-based Talaris Research Institute and author of the New York Times bestseller, Brain Rules and new book Brain Rules for Baby
  • Vicki Abeles, producer/director of the educational documentary Race to Nowhere, an eye-opening account of the achievement-obsessed way of life that permeates American education, featuring stories from students, educators, college professors and business leaders (event included a screening of the film).
  • Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg, nationally recognized pediatrician at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Associate Professor at The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and author of A Parent's Guide to Building Resilience in Children and Teens.
  • Denise Clark Pope,  lecturer at the Stanford University School of Education, founder of SOS: Stressed-Out Students project, co-founder of Challenge Success and author of Doing School: How We are Creating a Generation of Stressed Out, Materialistic and Miseducated Students.
  • Madeleine Levine, psychologist, co-founder of Challenge Success and author of the New York Times best-selling book The Price of Privilege: How Parental Pressure and Material Advantage Are Creating a Generation of Disconnected and Unhappy Kids.
