Year of the Environment

The Bay Area Discovery Museum ignites creativity in the next generation, inspiring innovative thinking through immersion in the arts, sciences and the local environment.

We have designated 2011-2012 our Year of Creativity in the Environment. While we will continue to pursue interdisciplinary programs and activities in the arts and sciences, we will put a special focus on our environmental mission:

Inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards

Unique among children’s museums nationally, the interpretive framework of the Bay Area Discovery Museum uses the concept of “home” as a point of entry for exploring the  cultural stories and icons within the natural and built environments of the Bay Area. Entitled My Place by the Bay, the framework emphasizes the Museum’s responsibility to present children with opportunities to learn about, appreciate and care for their place by the Bay. The Museum endeavors to create the next generation of environmental stewards through immersion in the native habitats of Fort Baker.

This blog will serve as a record of the unique environmental exhibitions and programs we develop throughout the Museum in this, our Year of Creativity in the Environment.
