Our Talented Guides: Quick Bios


Eli Africa

Eli is a member of a large – 11 siblings – Filipino family.  He was born in Southern California, but spent the years of 8-23 in the Philippines where he earned his BFA at the University of the Philippines.  Eli’s other interests include film, travel, & music.  His two children – 4 year old Alika and 6 month Liam bring smiles and laughter to his heart.  Ask Eli about the numerous short films he’s directed. Jason Jordan

Jason is a San Francisco native.  He previously gained experience with the Boys & Girls Club and has been with the Museum for five years.  Jason’s other interests lie in cars, photography and computers.  The creative ways children try to figure out problems brings a smile to his face.  Pick his mind about technology, because he enjoys learning and sharing. Matthew Robinson aka "Mr. R"

Matthew’s roots stem from Southern California.  Huntington Beach is where he grew up sketching with dreams of being a cartoonist.  At the age of 13 a six-string found its way into his hands, and since that time, the creative energy has been channeled into musical expression.  Matthew has been exploring the Bay Area music and art world since 2000.  He enjoys walks by the ocean or amongst trees and finds thoughts from “left-field” an excellent way to provide innocent humor.  Ask Matthew about his eclectic vinyl collection. Laura Anderson

A Vegas native, Laura came to the Bay Area to earn her B.A. in Education.  She has spent the last 5 years fostering this knowledge in the realm of museums. Laura enjoys creative expression through ceramics and is always up for a travel adventure.  She finds a laugh in goofy people and when kids try and act like adults.  Ask Laura about her journey to New Zealand where she spent time sky diving. Wednesday Kirwin

A product of the Duluth, MN, Wednesday attended the Kansas City Art Institute before landing in the Bay Area.  “The different colored houses in San Francisco are what attracted me,” Wednesday jokes.  Wednesday’s other interests include painting, long walks, biking, and illustration.  Her dog Nemo provides smiles and laughs.  Ask Wednesday about her new children’s book Nobody Loves Minerva being published Fall 2007. Pagan Neil

Pagan began his journey as street poet and his passion for poetry and performance remains.  His 7 year old son, Jack, brought him to the Bay Area Discovery Museum – literally as a visitor and then as a team member to further gain experiences from children.  Pagan’s interests lie in poetry, theatrics, and word/play.  A smile comes to Pagan’s face when people that take themselves too seriously or things that are strikingly out of context.  Ask this wordsmith about words, how to arrange them, and how to put them together.  Read his interview

Tami Lau

Tami is very close to her family. Her younger brother goes to UC Berkeley.  She has great respect for her family and especially her parents, who immigrated to the United Sates from China.  She hopes one day to go visit China in her travels.  Read her interview
