Front Desk Assistant

The Bay Area Discovery Museum, located at historic Fort Baker in Sausalito, is a unique educational institution and popular destination for over 310,000 children and adults who visit annually. The Front Desk Assistant reports to the Membership & Front Desk Manager.

Weekends are required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide exceptional customer service - greet, direct and actively assist visitors.
  • Perform cashier duties at the Front Desk handling all cash, check and charge transactions.
  • Promote and sell Museum memberships and programs.
  • Participate in procedures to respond to emergencies.
  • Manage organization of lost and found items.
  • Maintain appearance of the Front Desk to provide an inviting atmosphere in the entry area.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year visitor services experience required.
  • Complete administrative tasks including:  empty gravity well, complete change order, count and input coupons, manage lost and found, restock supplies, and maintain clean front desk area.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to attend to detail and work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize and efficiently complete varied tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Honest, reliable and a team player.
  • Ability to maintain focus and professional demeanor while serving large numbers of visitors.
  • Ability to tolerate distractions and a noisy work environment.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as bending, moving around and picking up items for 2-3 hours at a time and to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. short distances.
  • Basic computer literacy.

This is a part-time position with a Saturday & Sunday schedule. Starting salary: $10-$11.75/hour.  Temporary employees are eligible for limited benefits, including Worker’s Compensation, Unemployment and FICA.
